Restumping & stump replacement
Replacing failed stumps, whether that's the whole house or just the part that has moved, and relevelling the floors above.
M.Ewald Building repairs the structure of older Brisbane homes: failing stumps and sagging floors, bearers and joists, wall framing, stairs, gables and fascias. We find what's causing the problem, support the house while we work, and fix it properly so it's sound again.

A sloping floor, a door that won't close, cracks in the walls or stairs that move are usually signs of a problem further down: a failed stump, a sagging bearer, or framing that's no longer doing its job. Patching the symptom doesn't last.
We work out what's really going on, prop and support the structure where needed, replace what has failed and relevel the house. Then we finish the repair to match, replicating the original timber work so it blends in.
These are the structural repairs we carry out on older Brisbane homes, especially Queenslanders.

Structural repairs need someone who understands how the whole house fits together. M.Ewald Building is a QBCC licensed builder, and Michael is a qualified carpenter and joiner with 25+ years on the tools.
Around 80% of his work is on Queenslanders, so he knows how older timber homes are built, and how to replicate the original work so a repair doesn't stand out. Whether it's a straightforward repair or something trickier, the aim is to get it right the first time.
"Michael also had the unenviable task of having to also restump part of the house which he found while doing the paving. The original job of stumping was a very poor quality job, however, Michael rectified that as part of the first job."
"Michael's skill in building the steps meant that we eliminated a dangerous step at the bottom of the steps and onto a paved area ... Michael is punctual, courteous and respectful of the client and their property."
"Michael replaced my traditional front stairs. Using top grade hardwood and traditional hand craftsmanship, he replicated the existing stairs with only the changes I had requested."
