M.Ewald Building renovates and extends Queenslanders and older character homes across Brisbane. Around 80% of Michael's work is on Queenslanders, some more than 130 years old, so we know how they're built and how to make new work match the original.
Most Queenslanders can be reworked to suit the way you live now. Sometimes that means opening up the inside, sometimes extending out the back, and sometimes lifting the house and building in underneath. It's often more cost-effective than moving, and you keep the home and the street you love.
Much of Brisbane's Queenslander stock also comes with character rules. Michael has renovated homes with heritage and character controls, and we work with drafters on plans that meet Brisbane City Council requirements.

Michael comes out, looks at your home and talks through what you'd like to do.
Sketches first, then working drawings once you've approved the design.
A detailed quote, and once you're happy with it, the contract is signed.

Michael has 25+ years on the tools. He started out as a carpenter and joiner, worked as a leading hand and site foreman for another Brisbane builder, and started M.Ewald Building in 2009. Around 80% of his work is renovating and extending Queenslanders, from worker's cottages to homes more than 130 years old.
You deal with Michael directly. For design help, we work closely with interior designer Stella Franks from Three Stems, and with drafters for plans and approvals. Before you commit to anything, we're happy to put you in touch with past clients.
