The Short Answer

A deck built for the way Brisbane lives outside.

Whether it's a new deck attached to the back of the house, a low deck for an entertaining area, a pool deck or a verandah on a Queenslander, we build it to handle Queensland's weather, which can be hard on both new and old decks.

We also help with the design. If you're unsure about style, materials or timeframes, Michael can talk you through the options and help you make the most of spaces that aren't being used.

What We Build

Decks, verandahs and outdoor areas.

Every deck starts with how you want to use it. These are the options we build most.

New decks and deck extensions off the back of the house, covered or open, low to the ground or up high.

Queenslander verandahs

Elevated timber deck with dining area in Holland Park

Elevated deck extensions

Extending an upstairs deck can add entertaining space without building into the backyard.

Timber deck with balustrade beside a sandstone home

Garden & separate decks

Garden decks, gazebos and decks separate from the house, placed to make the most of the yard.

New timber stairs and landing on a Queenslander

Timber stairs & balustrades

Michael specialises in external timber stairs, both traditional and modern, with timber balustrades built to match the deck or verandah.

Project · Balmoral

A Queenslander verandah and stairs, rebuilt.

On this Balmoral Queenslander in 2025, we built a new verandah balustrade and new timber stairs as part of the renovation, then finished the timber decking.

The verandah now opens off the new kitchen through a servery window, so it's part of everyday living, not just the view.

Deck extension with wire balustrade stairs in Holland Park

Deck extension, Holland Park

The owners didn't want to lose their large backyard to a downstairs extension, so we extended their elevated deck instead. Wire balustrade keeps it safe without blocking the view or the afternoon breeze, and the timber was weather sealed to keep maintenance down.

Outdoor entertaining area beside a pool in Carindale

Outdoor entertaining area, Carindale

A pool-side entertaining area with lounge seating and hidden storage for pool gear, a modern glass pool fence, and an undercover outdoor kitchen and dining area that can be used all year round.

Questions

Deck and verandah questions, answered.

How much does a new deck cost in Brisbane?
It depends on the size, height and design of the deck, whether it's covered, and the materials and balustrades you choose. Michael visits first to see the space and talk through options, then you get a detailed quote before anything is signed.
Do I need council approval for a deck in Brisbane?
Many decks do, depending on size, height and where it sits on the block. Council submission and building approval are part of our process where they're needed, so you don't have to work it out yourself.
Can you help design our deck?
Yes. Our process starts with a site visit and preliminary sketches, then working drawings once you've approved the design. If you're unsure about style, materials or timeframes, Michael can advise you.
Should I repair or replace my old deck?
It depends on how much of the structure is still sound. Worn boards or a tired finish can often be repaired, but rotten or termite-damaged stumps, bearers, joists or stair stringers need replacing so the deck is safe. Michael will look at it and tell you honestly which makes sense.
Which timber is best for a deck in Brisbane?
It depends on the look you want, your budget and how much maintenance you're happy with. We use quality hardwoods like spotted gum in our work, and Michael will talk you through the options for your deck before you decide.
Can you extend or renovate our existing deck?
Yes. We build deck extensions and renovate old decks. In Holland Park we extended an elevated deck so the owners gained entertaining space without building into their backyard.
Do you build covered decks and outdoor entertaining areas?
Yes. We build covered decks and undercover entertaining areas, including pool-side areas with seating, storage and outdoor kitchens, so you can use them in the Brisbane sun and summer storms.
Can you add or rebuild a verandah on a Queenslander?
Yes. We've worked extensively on Queenslanders, and verandahs, balustrades and timber stairs are work we know well. We build them to suit the character of the house.
Do you build and replace timber stairs?
Yes. Michael specialises in external timber stairs, traditional and modern. He has replaced traditional front stairs in Greenslopes using top grade hardwood, replicating the originals.
How do I keep a timber deck low maintenance?
Sealing the timber against the weather makes a big difference. On our Holland Park deck the timber was weather sealed, so the owners won't need to think about maintenance for some time, and when they do it's a simple job.
Which areas do you cover?
We're based in Greenslopes and build decks across Brisbane, especially the southside, including Holland Park, Coorparoo, Camp Hill, Tarragindi, Yeronga, Carindale and Moorooka.
